Over the past few months, I have been surprised by the number of times I have been asked certain questions by attorneys in small or solo firms. "Should a small firm like ours have a strategic plan?" "Is it too late in the year to develop a strategic plan?" For me, this could indicate a lack of understanding regarding the strategic planning process and the benefits that can be achieved from developing a strategic plan, regardless of firm size or time of year. My Father's Shoes
When I was a kid, I used to put on my dad's shoes and go tromping around the house. They were way too big for me, of course, which often resulted in sudden (but expected) mishaps. Sometimes I would take off running and run right out of his shoes. Other times I would forget I was wearing them, causing me to trip and fall. One thing that always held true was that one of my parents or siblings would pick me up after a fall, wipe away the tears and send me on my way........
