2012 09 Mile High Madness

Mile High Madness

Welcome to the September edition of Mile High Madness.  As we settle into the upcoming fall season with cooler temperatures and beautiful fall foliage, there's no better time to Change Your Altitude and learn how to Lead Strategically.  This is the theme of the 2012 ALA Region 4 Conference & Exposition being held right here in Denver, October 4-6, 2012.  It's been six years since the Mile High City hosted an ALA regional conference.  If you've never been able to attend an ALA conference, this is an excellent chance for you to benefit from one of the best education and networking events in ALA.

As dues paying Mile High Chapter members you get the benefit of a $300.00 subsidy to attend the conference.  One of the many perks of being a Chapter member.  Here's how it works, you register for the Conference and pay the registration fee.  After the conference you will have 30 days to submit your request for the subsidy by presenting your registration receipt to Treasurer, Mark Richey and the Chapter will send you or your firm a check for $300.00 as long as you actually attend the conference.  (conference attendance will be verified)  If you register on or before Tuesday, September 4, 2012, the full-conference registration fee is $345.00.  That means you get to attend the Region 4 Conference for only $45.00.  An incredible value at little cost to you or your firm.  Registration fees increase on September, 5, 2012 to $395.00.

Recapping the Chapter's August events:

August Webinar:

The August webinar was hosted at the offices of Welborn Sullivan Meck & Tooley, P.C. on August 15, 2012.  The program, entitled Records Management: The Bermuda Triangle was presented by Dana C. Moore.  Dana's presentation taught attendees how to develop a solid plan for implementing a firm-wide paper and e-records program, and explained the complexities of document, records and e-mail migration from a physical records system to an e-records system.

August Educational Luncheon:

The educational luncheon was held on August 16, 2012 at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in downtown Denver.  Kathleen B. Nalty, JD, executive director of the Center for Legal Inclusiveness, and Paula A. Torke, Regional Director for Dorsey & Whitney, LLP were the presenters for this event on the topic of diversity and inclusiveness in the legal community.  The interactive presentation discussed the need for more diversity in law firms as well as how to unlock the hidden obstacles faced by individuals in various minority groups in succeeding in the legal world.
