Please join the Mile High Chapter Education Committee for the chapter's annual Law Firm Management luncheon on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at The Oxford Hotel.  As a current MHC ALA Member you may invite at no additional charge 2 attorneys from your office to attend this event with you.  John Remsen, Jr. President and CEO, Managing Partner Forum and President of The Remsen Group will speak on "The Ethical Considerations of Law Firm Leadership Important Issues You Might Not Be Thinking About, But Should Be!"   Ethical principles and behavior on the part of law firm leadership have become increasingly integral to firms’ long-term success. This session examines the complex and evolving set of issues related to this topic and offers concrete guidance to make sure your firm has its bases covered.

  • Being honest, keeping promises, leading by example, earning trust
  • Ensuring a safe and secure work environment
  • Sensitively and effectively handling behavioral and substance abuse issues
  • Maintaining appropriate client and internal firm confidentiality

  • Formulating appropriate and transparent billing practices
  • Deftly triaging leadership conflicts of interest
  • Maintaining consistently high quality work product

  • Building a cohesive, effective firm-first culture
  • Keeping up with appropriate current technologies, including remote access and cyber-security
  • (Competence, confidentiality and third parties)
  • Ensuring that associates and staff receive meaningful, thorough training, evaluation and feedback
  • Creating a fair, understandable compensation system

  • Explore the Tenets of Effective Leadership for Managing Partners and Firm Administrators
  • Hear John’s Specific Recommendations on this Important Topic

 

Registration will open at 11:00 a.m. and the session will start promptly at 11:30 a.m.  The session is scheduled to end at 1:00 p.m.

John Remsen, Jr., is widely recognized as one of the country’s leading authorities on law firm leadership, management, marketing and business development. Since 1997 TheRemsenGroup has consulted with more than 400 law firms and thousands of law firm leaders to help them develop and implement long-term strategic objectives to improve cohesiveness, profitability and sustainability.

John is a frequent speaker and author on law-firm leadership and marketing topics. He has spoken at national and regional conferences of the Legal Marketing Association, Association of Legal Administrators, American Bar Association, and numerous state and local bar associations. His articles have appeared in dozens of highly respected legal publications, including the ABA Journal, Law Practice Management, Law Practice Today, Law360, Legal Management, Marketing for Lawyers, Marketing the Law Firm, Managing Partner, National Law Review and New York Law Journal.

A native of West Palm Beach, Florida, John holds an MBA from The University of Virginia (1985) and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida (1980). Prior to enrolling in graduate school, John was Executive Director of The Florida Council of 100, an organization comprised of Florida’s top CEOs and other business leaders.

This course has been approved for 1.0 General CLE credit, from the Colorado Supreme Court, Board of Continuing Legal & Judicial Education.

CLM Recertification Credit: 1.0 hour in the subject area of Legal Industry/Business Management.  This education session satisfies the one(1) hour minimum requirement of Business Ethics. 

CLM Application Credit for Functional Specialists:  1.0 hour in the subject area of Legal Industry/Business Management toward the additional hours required of some Functional Specialists to fulfill the CLM application requirements.
