Please join the Mile High Chapter Education Committee at our monthly luncheon on Thursday, February 21, 2019 as Ben Markus from Colorado Public Radio (CPR) will present "A Brief Overview of Colorado's Economy."  CPR business reporter Ben Markus will walk through Colorado's economic rise. The state has seen tremendous growth in population, jobs, and new industries. We'll look at the good and the bad. There are risk factors on the horizon for Colorado.

Session Objectives:

  1. Participants will come away with an overview of Colorado's economic and demographic changes.
  2. Participants will understand how the Great Recession has altered the state permanently.
  3. The session will touch on macro and micro level issues about a number of key industries and trends.

Ben Markus is the business reporter for Colorado Public Radio. Ben started as a general assignment reporter at CPR eight years ago, and he has covered some of the biggest stories in state history: the Aurora theater shooting, wildfires, floods, and marijuana legalization.

Ben came to Colorado after spending three years at Hawaii Public Radio. That's where his love of business and economics reporting began. While on Oahu in 2008 the Great Recession hit, and NPR responded by training dozens of reporters across the country how to make some sense of the economic crisis. Ben was picked to spend a year under the wing of an NPR editor learning how not to bore listeners to death with a bunch of numbers.

Eventually Ben moved to Colorado, where he maintained a focus on business, but also covered anything his editors told him to cover. But as the newsroom at CPR added reporters he was eventually elevated to the business beat full time. Ben admits it's getting a little boring talking about how great the economy is in Denver, but he also knows it's better than the alternative.

Ben Markus will join us at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center, 1420 Stout Street, Denver, Colorado, 80202.  The Board has agreed to continue with valet parking for those members outside of downtown Denver.  Please indicate in your registration if you will be using that service.
